VEGANUARY

January is, for many people, a time of a slower pace, new impulses, and greater awareness of what we eat. After the festive season, it’s only natural to feel the urge to lighten our diet, explore new flavors, and make space for ingredients we don’t usually use.

This is exactly what Veganuary is about – an international initiative that encourages people to try a plant-based diet throughout January.

What Is Veganuary and Where Did It Come From

Veganuary was founded in 2014 in the United Kingdom as a simple challenge: to try eating without animal products for one month. No pressure, no dogma, and no need to commit to any long-term change. Over time, Veganuary has grown into a global phenomenon, with millions of people taking part each year – individuals, restaurants, and brands across continents.

People join for different reasons. Some want to lighten their diet, others are curious to discover new flavors, and some are interested in a more sustainable approach to food. Veganuary is not about restriction or taking a stance – it’s more about openness and exploration.

Veganuary in the Czech Context

Interest in ingredient quality, food origins, and menu variety is also growing in the Czech Republic. Plant-based cuisine is becoming a natural part of the gastronomic scene – not as a replacement for meat, but as a fully fledged alternative that broadens culinary possibilities. For many guests, Veganuary is an impulse to try something new without having to give up what they already enjoy.i.

How We Approach Veganuary at Červený Jelen

At Červený Jelen, one simple idea has long applied: everyone should be able to sit at the same table. Without compromise when choosing a restaurant, and without anyone having to wonder whether there will be something for them on the menu.

Meat is, and always will be, an important part of our cuisine. At the same time, we also think about guests who eat differently – whether they prefer a plant-based diet or have specific dietary requirements, such as gluten intolerance. The goal is not to compare choices, but to offer quality food for everyone.

Vegan options have been a natural part of our menu for a long time. They are not a seasonal trend or a January-only exception – you’ll find them with us all year round. Veganuary is simply an ideal opportunity to rediscover them, or to taste them for the very first time.

What You Can Enjoy With Us – Not Only During Veganuary

At Červený Jelen, we approach plant-based dishes the same way we do everything else on our menu: with honest craftsmanship, balanced flavors, and thoughtfully composed combinations.

What you can look forward to:

Starter:Pulled vegan tenderloin in BBQ sauce with caramelized onions and grilled bread

Main course:Vegan tenderloin steak

To enjoy with a glass of wine:Rýs cheese with noble spirulina, cauliflower, white radish, and our house-made seed crackers

These are dishes that stand on their own – not because they are vegan, but because they are genuinely good.

One Table, No Questions About “Who Eats What”

For us, Veganuary is not about changing our identity or rethinking what Červený Jelen represents. It’s about a table where one guest can enjoy a steak, another a plant-based dish – and both leave with an equally great experience.

Because a good restaurant is one where no one feels left out.And where truly everyone can choose quality food.
